WORKING AT HEIGHTS

Anyone working at heights 3 meters (10 ft) or above in British Columbia must be trained and qualified in the proper use of Fall Protection systems. Workers are required to receive comprehensive training that meets CSA series Z259 and WorkSafe BC Workers Compensation Act, Part 3: OHS and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, Part 11: Fall Protection.

COURSE OUTLINE

This course provides comprehensive training in fall protection for employees working at 3 meters (10ft) or more. Training will provide the end user the understanding, skill, and ability to recognize, control and mitigate hazards related to working at heights.

COURSE LENGTH
4 Hours

COURSE CONTENT
Each participant will be instructed in accordance with CSA standards, WorkSafe BC and Federal Regulations.

THE COURSE WILL COVER THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:

  • Federal and Provincial Legislation
  • CSA related codes and standards
  • Hazard assessment, elimination and control
  • Fall safety statistics
  • Types of falls
  • Inspection of additional safety equipment
  • Rescue and escape planning
  • Donning equipment: safety belts, full body harnesses, lanyards, anchors, and lifelines
  • Documentation (plans and equipment logs)
  • Fall protection systems -plans, calculations, equipment and components
  • Pre-shift visual inspections

Upon conclusion of the course, participants will have; developed a comprehensive understanding of the above topics, and participated in group discussions and exercises. Students will also observe a demonstration and practice in the safe use, care and inspection of fall protection equipment.

CERTIFICATION

A Record of Training (ROT) certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the course, and a course system binder will be provided to the organization.The ROT certificate for Fall Protection is valid for 3 years

ATTENTION HEALTH AND SAFETY ADVISORS/EMPLOYERS:

The Occupational Health & Safety regulation requires workers to use a system where they could fall at least 3m (10ft) or where a fall from a lesser height may result in serious injury. Workers must be trained thoroughly in the safe use & limitations of personal fall protection equipment, including safety belts, harnesses, lanyards, and lifelines.
